Charter School
The Charter School of Tampa Bay Academy
was founded to meet the educational needs of the children attending
the Tampa Bay Academy. The school’s goal is to provide
a program that addresses the requirements of students who range
from five through eighteen, essentially spanning elementary
through high school. The school also provides educational services for ESE students in Hillsborough County. Transportation is provided to and from school for eligible students from Hillsborough County Schools.
The Charter School has been fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACSCASI). Credits earned are fully transferable back to the
student’s home district whether that be in Florida or
out-of-state. We teach our courses in a stimulating environment
so that we can engage even our most reticent learners. Keeping
in mind the special needs of the students who attend our program,
the curriculum is designed with academic goals that encompass
both special and standard education. Individual Educational
Plans are developed to address the goals and learning styles
of students. Where appropriate, we employ a variety of compensatory
and remedial techniques to enhance instruction.
We provide appropriate class
settings based on age and needs of the individual student. Elementary
classes are self-contained, while our middle and high school
programs are departmentalized. All students
receive classes in Math, Science, English, and History that
are appropriate to their particular grade levels. Additionally,
ancillary services such as Physical Education and Spanish, Computer Laboratory, and Vocational Education
and Art are included in their schedules.
A certified teacher conducts each class. Behavioral aides also work in the classrooms to provide a 3:1 student to staff ratio. Keeping in mind that every student learns differently, we accommodate or modify our
curriculum to help ensure a successful school experience. Our
goal is not only to provide a complete academic program, but
to assist students to develop the classroom behaviors that will
enable them to participate in less restrictive environments
upon discharge. We strive to create “safe haven”
educational environment for all students, so that they may begin
to enjoy and profit from our school.
